Dear All,

A student asked me further help for the 4.b exercise. This is my answer:

Both the slides and the book explain to us how to use a reference  
machine with different types of mean. The 4.b exercise asks you: " You  
wonder how the performance of the three machines would compare using  
other means to normalize performance. Which machine is faster by the  
geometric mean?"

You have also the information that you need to use the geometric mean  
(GM(R) is asked for R=A, B, and C). The book and our conversations in  
class outlined the straight of the geometric mean. The slides in our  
lectures showed us how to compute it. The exercise mainly is asking  
you to take the geometric mean of the execution times and use the  
inverse to identify the faster machine.
